Birth of the Cool

Miles Leroy Wilhelm Hagopian was born on December 21 at 2:21am, 9 lbs 14 oz, 21 inches long. There's just something about the number 21 and this boy--We got to get him to a black jack table soon and you know his 21st birthday is going to be off the hook!

Born on the Winter solstice, Miles is a sign that there will be more sunshine from here on out. His face is the most radiant of all--the nurse at GroupHealth had to admit he was the cutest baby in the hospital.

From his very beginnings Miles seems to have a flare for the dramatic; he implanted while his momma was being evacuated from Haiti during the food uprisings and he was born during the biggest snowstorm in the Northwest in years. We were lucky to have a wonderful friend and doula, Becca, who had four-wheel drive to get us to the hospital!

When Becca had to leave for her family vacation, Miles' family trio were supported by another friend and family practice doctor, Wendy--whose assistance in navigating the hospital, documenting the birth, calming the anticipating family, and assisting the delivery was invaluable.

All honors for Miles' miraculous entrance into the world go to a true hero--Sarah. There was a period of a couple of hours when her contractions were coming so fast that there was no down time between them! Even with continues contractions, Sarah was able to maintain a rhythm and a breathing pattern that helped her cope extremely well. Then, with her next move, Sarah shocked the world: she curled up at the end of the bath tub, and just up and decided she wasn't going to deal with the contractions any more--she fell asleep!! When she awoke it was time to push that 10 pound baby out.

And that is the story of the birth of the cool.

Nice blog, Miles, jesse and Sarah. At first when I saw the photos I was REGRETTING not coming over to Meredith's on Xmas. But then reading your message, I remembered why we decided not to brave the snowy cityscape that day (plus we'd already given two people rides to/from our house that morning and had had enough snowy adventures for one day).

I guess we're just going to have to come over to see you soon, you little cutie pie!
